“Let’s ask Grok!” – Shivon Zilis’s son prefers AI over mom’s answer, bringing up a debate on educational AI

Shivon Zilis, a Canadian venture capitalist and director of operations and special projects at Neuralink, recently shared a humorous parenting anecdote involving her young son and artificial intelligence.

Zilis revealed on her official X account that her son was in a curiosity stage of childhood and he asked many questions. But instead of accepting the “I don’t know” from my mother, the little boy founded a technical solution – Grok is an AI chatbot developed by Xai, founded by Elon Musk.

“My son is in the “ask a thousand questions phase” and whenever I say ‘I don’t know’ he says ‘Okay, and then ask Groke.’ His knowledge is no longer acceptable when mom knows the sound on my phone can answer every question,” Zilis wrote, adding a laughing emoji to her post.

Her relaxed resonance resonates with many parents who face similar experiences with tech-savvy children. The rise of AI-powered assistants has changed the motivation for learning, allowing children to access instant information in ways that were not accessible to previous generations.

Chatbot Grok was launched by XAI to provide intelligent and context-aware responses. Unlike traditional search engines, AI chatbots (such as Grok Process complex queries) generate answers in conversational fashion.

Replying to Zilis’ post on X, a popular comedian and YouTuber commented: “Same! Grok also makes home learning easier too.”

Another user added: “We need more AI teachers.”

@lsbissell expressed enthusiasm, writing: “I love it! The little kids make our mom on the toes. My son is an electrical engineering student and I used to ask him all about math. Now Grok is my BFF.”

However, not everyone has the same view. Some users have criticized the role of artificial intelligence in family education. “We had already had a horrible period when kids started to accept the truth about Elon’s programming AI. Sadly, indoctrination became a real problem,” @chching wrote.
