Landslide survivors’ towns appear on Elstone Estate in Phase 1

The National Cabinet decided on Thursday to choose Elstone Estate only in the first phase, to build a township for survivors of landslides in the Wayanad area on July 30, 2024.

The cabinet will also fix the sponsorship for building houses for survivors at Rs 2 million.

The government said the cabinet was subject to Kalpetta municipality restrictions in the first phase alone, as the list of affected households prepared by collectors in Wayanad area does not exceed 430. In addition, the government will also be excluded from families who settled outside townships outside townships.

In the township, the houses will be built on a seven-cent plot. The income limit of the beneficiary will not be considered for land allocation. Houses and land allocated as residential units will be heritable but not transferable for 12 years.

The Cabinet recommends that units be allocated together to male and female heads in the family. Although the property will not be transferred within 12 years, the government will review individual applications to mortgage the property on a case-by-case basis.

In addition, the Cabinet also decided to include a list of 2-B periods that are not outside the area but are isolated. District collector Wayanad will be asked to finalize the list by focusing specifically on fully isolated families within 50 meters outside the area.

The stipend of Rs 300 to landslide survivors will continue. The task of the National Authorization Commission is to complete the decision in this regard.
