Fugitive businessman and founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Lalit Modi posted a photo of himself in Vanuatu on Monday, even as the Island Nation moved his newly obtained passport.
During the rampage on his Vanuatu passport, Modi arrived at the island country and urged people to visit it. “Vanuatu is a beautiful country. You have to put it on your bucket list. Stay away from all pollution and noise. The real kingdom of heaven.”
Modi reportedly obtained Vanatutu’s citizenship after surrendering to an Indian passport on the Commission of the Commission for Indian High Commissioners in London.
But Modi was in new trouble when Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat directed the Citizenship Council to cancel his newly acquired citizenship.
“I have directed the Citizens Commission to start the lawsuit immediately to cancel Lalit Modi’s Vanuatu passport,” said Napat, Vanuatu Prime Minister.
The former IPL boss is believed to have lived in London before moving to Vanuatu, wanted in India and described by Indian investigative agencies as an economic offender.
Last week, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said India will continue to file lawsuits against Modi even after obtaining Vanuatu citizenship.
The former IPL chairman called out the income tax and law enforcement authorities to flee to the UK in 2010 for suspected foreign exchange violations related to the 2009 IPL broadcast agreement held in South Africa.
