Kia India is gearing up to launch yet another SUV and has showcased the product for the first time. The new SUV is expected to be named Kia Clavis and will sit between the Kia Sonet and Seltos. Interestingly, this will create a unique segment with no other product sitting between the subcompact and compact SUV segments.
Kia India calls the Clavis a “new breed of SUV” and says the upcoming SUV’s indigenous design is inspired by the unfulfilled needs of Indian customers. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming Kia Clavis.

Kia Kravis: Design
Kia India recently shared the first teaser of the upcoming Kia Clavis, revealing its design elements. Kia India says the SUV will embody a modern design aesthetic inspired by the Kia EV9 and Fiesta luxury sedans recently launched in the Indian market. Interestingly, the Kia Clavis will be the first made-in-India SUV to embody the company’s Design 2.0 philosophy under the company’s Kia 2.0 strategy.
While not much has been revealed about the upcoming Kia Clavis, the first sketches of the SUV reveal its uniquely designed side and rear silhouette. From the side, unlike current SUVs, the Clavis will have a more touring car-like design, similar to that of the Kia Carens.
Sketch of the side profile of the Kia Clavis shows that the SUV will have a flat roof and will also feature flush door handles. Meanwhile, at the rear, the Clavis will have a flat trunk lid with L-shaped taillights mounted on the upper half of the trunk. Overall, the Kia Clavis looks like an RV, with a boxy shape and flat surfaces.

Previous spy shots revealed that the SUV will feature vertically stacked LED projector headlights and vertical LED daytime running lights. The spy photos also show that there will be a high-mounted brake light and brake lights on the bumper.
Spy photos confirm that some design features are similar to Kia’s high-end electric car EV9, especially the rear taillights. The SUV will feature roof rails, but it’s unclear whether they will be for practical purposes or purely for aesthetics. The Kia Clavis is expected to feature larger windows, creating a spacious and open cabin. Additionally, the car will feature a new set of four-spoke alloy wheels on either side.
Kia Key: Features
The Kia Calvis will be offered as a higher-end variant of the Kia Sonet. However, it will be placed below the Kia Seltos, so the Kia Clavis is expected to get hybrid features. While spy shots have confirmed the Clavis’ all-round LED lighting, the interior is also expected to feature some premium elements.
First, the Kia Clavis is expected to feature a two-spoke flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel and a dual-screen setup on the dashboard. While the two-spoke steering wheel will be new, the dual-screen setup is also present in other Kia models.

Other notable features include a power sunroof, 360-degree camera, automatic wipers, smartphone connectivity and a premium sound system.
Kia Clavis: Powertrain
The Kia Clavis is expected to be offered with both gasoline and electric powertrains. Engine options are likely to include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine delivers a power output of 118 hp and 172 Nm of torque.
For the petrol variant, the transmission options include a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, while for the diesel variant, the transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Additionally, a naturally aspirated gasoline engine will be available, which should help lower the Clavis’ starting price. The engine can be a 1.5-liter engine from the Seltos or a 1.2-liter engine from the Sonet.
