A 34-year-old yoga teacher who was allegedly attacked, strangled and buried by a group of people who thought she was dead used breathing techniques to fake her own death and save herself, police said Friday.

Five people, including a woman named Bindu and her friend Satish Reddy who ran a detective agency in Bengaluru, were arrested in connection with the incident, they said.

“Bindu suspected that her husband was having an affair with a yoga teacher and asked Reddy to keep a close eye on the woman and her relationship with him. As part of the plan, Reddy allegedly used yoga as a pretext about three months ago to get in touch with the victim became friends.

In her complaint, the victim stated that on October 23, he came to her house near Dibrahari on the pretext of visiting some places in the city and took her in a car with three other men in the car.

She claimed they took her to a secluded spot on the outskirts of the city, stripped her naked and beat her.

According to her, she was beaten, threatened and even strangled with cables. She claimed she cooperated, pretending to be unconscious and using breathing techniques to fake death.

A senior police officer said: “Assuming the woman was dead, the accused allegedly dug a hole and covered her body with a thin layer of soil because they were in a hurry and feared being caught. But before leaving , they took away all her gold jewelry.

He said she claimed she later managed to crawl out of the pit, got her clothes with the help of some villagers and managed to reach the police station to report the incident.

The woman was sent for a medical examination and was taken to the hospital as per procedure.

“Based on the complaint, we registered a case under the kidnapping, attempt to murder and other appropriate departments of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Based on the investigation, we arrested five persons, including Reddy and Bindu, on November 6,” said.

The vehicle in which the victim was abducted was allegedly stolen from Bengaluru, police said, adding that the victim’s jewelery was also recovered during the arrest.

“We are trying to verify all the claims made by the victims. There were also some online money transactions between Bindu and his accomplices and we are also investigating the traces of money,” he added.
