Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi filed a motion for privilege against Union Education Minister Dharamendra Pradhan on Monday, accusing his position on Tamil Nadu on the PM Shri plan for misleading parliament.
Kanimozi said Pradan mistakenly claimed that the Tamil Nadu government initially agreed to sign the plan’s memorandum of understanding, but later turned around. She also claimed that the minister misrepresented the meeting between him and the Tamil Nadu MPs and noted that they initially supported the plan and then quit, and she was dismissed as incorrect.
Now, the Privileges Motion will be checked by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Pradhan had earlier accused the Tamil Nadu government of being “dishonest” and negated the implementation of a new National Education Policy (NEP), which has attracted sharp criticism from the DMK.
“They are dishonest and they are destroying the future of students in Tamil Nadu. They are doing politics,” he said.
He withdrew certain words he used in Tamil Nadu MPs following protests by the DMK leaders. Pradan urges the Tamil Nadu government to transcend political interests for the benefit of students.
Tamil Nadu chief minister Mk Stalin also slammed Pradhan, whose remarks reflected arrogance. “You are insulting the people of Tamil Nadu. Is Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepting this?” he said.
DMK clarified that it clearly told the minister that “we cannot fully accept “NEP” and that “Tamil Nadu” does not accept the three-language formula.
