Unrivaled Virat Kohli said on Sunday that his work is not only to win the ICC trophy, but also to ensure Indian cricket is in a better position when it enters sunset as the team wins its third trophy title with four matches here.
India completed 252 chases and received six goals. An ecstatic Colee said after the finals: “When you leave, you want to leave the team, I feel like we have a team ready to welcome the world for the next eight years.”
Although Kohli ranked first in the final, he made great strides in India’s championship victory over a half-century against Australia in the semi-finals.
“It’s amazing, we want to rebound after the tough Australian Tour and want to win big tournaments, so it’s amazing to win the championship trophy,” Kohli told the broadcaster’s “Jiohotstar” by his side.
He then explained that as one of the most senior players on the team, he also had to focus on embellishing the Gen-Next. “There are a lot of talent in the locker room and they are trying to further their game and we are excited to get help (the role of seniors) and share our experiences, which is what makes this Indian team so powerful.”
He likes the distance in the finals. “These are things you want to play (for titles), play under pressure and raise your hands.”
He is glad that the championship victory was an excellent team effort. “The whole team, everyone sometimes or everyone else has their hands up (during the game), everyone has performed well, we have been part of an amazing team and the amount of work we do in the practice class feels great (win).
“Shubman performed well, Shreyas played some championships, Kuala Lumpur (KL) had finished the match, and Hardik’s bats were excellent.” Kohli was graceful in the victory and did not forget to praise New Zealand’s side as they held the fight.
“We’ve always had a limited number of players in the talent pool, but they just executed the plan very well and they’ve been playing the kind of cricket that makes them very important in the game.
“They have been attacking and supporting bowling, and are commendable, easily the best outside teams in the field and it’s sad to see a very good friend of mine on the side of the failure (at Kane Williamson).
“But they are always good, they are always doing well. That’s what makes them competitive,” Kohli concluded.
