The Income Tax department has issued a notice to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Para in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
Parra, 37, was summoned to the IT office in Srinagar on December 20.
“Provide evidence and produce accounting books or other documents in person or through an authorized representative and shall not leave until you have my permission,” the notice reportedly read.
The notice to Palla, a member of the South Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Pulwama, was issued under Section 131 of the Income Tax Act. The case involves verification of the affidavit filed by Pala during the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
The regulations also allow tax authorities to seek books and financial documents submitted through notices or sent through their authorized representatives.
According to data submitted to the Election Commission of India after the parliamentary elections, Pala said he had spent slightly more than $14 lakhs for election campaign.

In his election affidavit, Parra stated that the total value of his movable and immovable properties exceeds $2.5 Crore including inherited agricultural land $2 Crores.
“I will be present and respond to the subpoena, but I want to clarify that nothing has been done against me and I have faced multiple investigations so far without any results. But these investigations are endless,” Parra said at the Hindus.
Parra contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Srinagar but lost. He was released on bail after serving two years in prison.

Parra was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25, 2020, a day after he filed his nomination for the Pulwama District Development Council elections.
In January 2021, the NIA court granted him bail.
