The Indian government has made changes to the import of historic vehicles. Under the new regulations, cars over 50 will be allowed to be imported into the country. The policy replaced previous rules that restricted the import of cars made after 1950. Antique cars will be subject to the Automobile Act of 1988 and the conditions outlined in Chapter 3 A of the Central Automobile Rules of 1989.
However, the General Administration of Foreign Affairs (DGFT) firmly bans the resale of these imported vehicles and declares that they are intended for personal use. Among the warnings to dealers, any attempt to resell a historic car in India could lead to future circumstances, including a possible five-year no sales rule. All cars imported from India will continue to be subject to customs duties, GST and registration fees, which will total about 25% of the value of the car.
The classic vehicle collector community is very active in India, especially in places like Mumbai and Delhi. These cities often hold classic vehicle gatherings in these cities, allowing car collectors to display their precious assets for public viewing. These events usually include classic cars from Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Fiat, Cadillac and Ford. However, with the implementation of the new law, the number of classic car collectors in the country may increase, resulting in a variety of vehicles displayed in the Vintage Car exhibition.
