The Centre announced on Sunday (March 9, 2025) that Madhav National Park is the 58th tiger reserve in the country, and the Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the news. The newly added national park is also the ninth recognized position in the state.
Mr Yadav posted on X: “58th Roar and Number! Excited to announce that the country has added the 58th Tiger Reserve to its statistics, and the latest contestant is Madhav Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh. This is the 9th Tiger Reserve for Members of Congress.”

Located in the Shivpuri district of Chambal, the reserve currently has five tigers, including two recently born bears. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will soon be able to release two other tigers into the reserve.
“In India continues to make great progress in environmental protection and wildlife conservation with the focus of historically restoring the ecological diversity of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji on the planet. I congratulate all wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists. This development is a testament to the unremitting efforts of our forest officials to make a cause selfless efforts to work hard,” the union minister added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed appreciation for the development, saying India has wildlife diversity and a culture that celebrates wildlife.
“Stunning news for wildlife lovers! India has the diversity of wildlife and a culture that celebrates wildlife. We will always be at the forefront of protecting animals and contributing to sustainable planets,” he said on X.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also thanked the Prime Minister for his development.
“Heartly thanks Prime Minister Hon’ble for designating Madhav National Park as the 58th Indian and MP9 Tiger Reserve! Madhya Pradesh proudly leads wildlife conservation and protects our biodiversity,” he wrote.
Three tigers, including two women, were introduced to Madhav National Park as part of the state’s tiger reintroduction program.
