Liquor sales were going well on Air India Express’ first four-hour flight from Surat in Gujarat to the Thai capital Bangkok, with some passengers claiming that stocks had run out.
The flight on Friday was operated by a Boeing 737-8 aircraft with 175 passengers and six crew members on board. The aircraft’s passenger capacity is 176 people.
Officials at the budget airline said on Sunday that liquor sales were brisk on flights from Surat to Bangkok and stocks were not depleted as claimed by some on social media.
Some passengers said on social media that the airline had run out of alcohol.
Officials added that there were adequate stocks of alcohol and food on board.
Tata Group-owned Air India Express did not issue an official statement.
According to officials, generally, alcohol served to passengers during a flight should not exceed 100 milliliters.
The airline offers five types of alcohol on board. A 50ml bottle of Chivas Regal is priced at Rs 600, while a 50ml bottle of Red Label, Bacardi White Rum and Beefeater Gin is priced at Rs 400. The price is 400 rupees.
Speaking of food, passengers can pre-order it or buy it during the flight.
Alcohol is prohibited in Gujarat.
