IMD sends out a yellow alarm over the next five days in early summer in Gujarat

Gujarat received the best yellow alert of the year from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday. The alert is reportedly expected to last five days, warning of high temperatures and humidity in coastal areas of the state.

According to the TOI report, Ashok Kumar Das, director of IMD Gujarat, explained that the temperature is unusually high, with temperatures in coastal areas being 1.6 to 5 degrees Celsius, and intake is higher than normal. He mentioned that although the impact of Western interference is not only responsible, the current combination of factors such as north-to-north wind direction is contributing to abnormal weather patterns.

IMD predicts that residents in Kutch and South Gujarat may feel physically unwell due to high temperatures and humidity, as indicated by the yellow alarm.

On Monday, Surat’s maximum temperature was 36.4°C, at least 21.9°C, and it felt like summer. Similarly, Veraval has a maximum value of 35°C and a minimum value of 21.5°C. This weather pattern has been observed throughout Gujarat throughout February. For Ahmedabad, the average temperature from February 1 to 24 degrees is 2 to 2.4 degrees higher than the normal temperature, with a maximum temperature of 34.2°C and a minimum of 18.5°C.

IMD predicts that temperatures will remain high for the next 24 hours, with potential rising at the highest temperatures to 2-3 degrees over the next few days. The lowest temperature may also rise by 2-3 degrees over the next two days.

TOI’s report quoted experts saying that although summer usually starts in March, both January and February this year are warmer than usual. The impact of western interference affecting parts of northern India may also affect the weather in Gujarat. Gujarat is experiencing early heat waves with significantly higher temperatures than normal and IMD has issued a yellow alarm for coastal areas of the state. This can cause discomfort, especially for patients with health conditions.(Input with TOI)
