The discussion point during the 2025 championship trophy is whether India has gained an advantage when the team played all the games in Dubai. India has participated in all competitions at a neutral venue after not traveling to Pakistan to win the championship trophy, and several experts say this gives them an unfair advantage. However, Pakistan legend Wasim Akram said that even if India travels to Pakistan for the championship, it won’t make a difference.
“This Indian team could have won anywhere in the world,” Accram said during a locker room show on Sports Central Channel.
“Yes, there are a lot of speeches and once it is decided that India will play all the games in Dubai. But if they play in Pakistan, they will win, too.”
Akram noted that India won the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Championship Trophy without losing any match, so they always win the championship no matter where they play.
“They won the 2024 T20 World Cup without losing the game, they continued to win the championship trophy without losing a game, which shows the depth of cricket, which shows leadership.”
The 2025 victory for the Champions Trophy comes after India suffered a humiliating test defeat at home (0-3 vs. New Zealand) and leaving (1-3 vs. Australia). However, despite the rigorous scrutiny, the Indian team still insisted that Rohit Sharma be captained and Gautam Gambhir be head coach.
Akram praised India for making a “sane” decision, saying it would help them win in the end.
“If you remember, they lost 3-0 to New Zealand in the home Test series, lost the border-Gavaska Trophy and lost the series in Sri Lanka. They were under pressure to remove the captain, coach, but BCCI had the upper hand. BCCI supported them.
The Indian team has now won eight ODIs in a row. Starting with a 3-0 victory over England, India incorporated this format into the championship trophy, where they beat Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand, winning the championships both times.
India is next in IPL after 2025, in June, when they competed in the five-match Test series in England.
