Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq slammed the legendary Sunil Gavaskar in a recent speech to Pakistan cricket. The 75-year-old Gavaskar criticized Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the 2025 ICC Championship trophy.
In a recent interview, Gavaskar said Pakistan’s current team is not enough to compete with India’s B team. The legendary cricketer’s comments come after India beat Pakistan in Dubai’s 2025 Championship trophy.
“I think even the B team in India will give Pakistan a tough challenge. It’s hard for Pakistan to beat them in the current team,” Ghavasca said.
The former Indian captain also stressed Pakistan’s lack of intention in the championship trophy.
He said: “Mohammad Rizwan hit his first ball in four innings and I thought we were doing something different. But the batsmen quickly started blocking delivery instead of spin strikes. The spinners in India quickly finished their match and it was surprising that the batsmen in Pakistan did not show any urgency,” he said.
Gavaskar’s comments certainly don’t get along well with Inzamam, who claims the legendary cricketer once had a intentional choice between India and Pakistan during the game.
“India won the game and they played well, but Mr. Ghavaska should also look at the statistics. He used to escape from Sharjah to escape the match against Pakistan. He was older than us; he was our senior; we respect him very much, but you shouldn’t talk about a country like this. Of course, you can comment on your team as you want, but you have to comment on other teams, but their other teams are not good.
The 55-year-old also mentioned that Gavaskar destroyed his legacy by making such controversial remarks.
“Tell him to look at the statistics and he will know where Pakistan is. I feel very distressed about him making such statements. He is a great, respectful cricketer, but by making such comments, he will only devalue his legacy. He should control his tongue,” Inzamam said.
The 2025 championship trophy is Pakistan’s first home tournament in 29 years. However, they failed to cash out and were eliminated on the group stage of the match after losing the match against New Zealand and India.
