Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said outrage at the Gurmag fashion show went from the ground to the court, saying the government had no role in organizing the show and that if any violation was taken, the police should investigate the matter.
Big Mufti said that if there is no such show stop, people will take to the streets and the government will be responsible for the bleeding.
After photos of the fashion show held by Gulmarg spread, Kashmir was outraged from religious leaders to political leaders, and everyone condemned the show and demanded investigation and action.
Today, from Kashmir to Jamu, the Gurmag fashion show was discussed. The government was also asked to provide answers to the matter in parliament, and all political parties condemned the show and demanded action against the organizers.
CM Omar Abdullah said in the House that the government had no role in organizing the show. He said the program is a private function in a private hotel organization where no government infrastructure is involved. He said the government has been directed to investigate whether organizers have violated any laws. “They were told that if any violation was taken, the matter should be handed over to the police,” he said.
Rashid Rahil (social activist) said that Kashmir should ban such performances, which hurts the emotions of ordinary people. The government should see what is right and what is wrong. Kashmir society is different.
Maulana Altaf Hussain (religious priest) said it was against Islam. He added: “Our religions do not accept such things, nor do they accept any other religions. This show is both a violation of religion and society.”
Meanwhile, Great Mufti of Jamu Kashmir also held a press conference and criticized the fashion show. He said this is unacceptable and should be thoroughly investigated and such shows should be stopped in the future.
Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam (Great Muftijamu Kashmir) said: “This is a very condemnible act, Jamu Kashmir is a Muslim region and the second holy month of Ramadan is continuing. It seems that this is an attempt to make the situation worse. It should be thoroughly studied. The government should ban such programs or there will be bloodshed and the government will be held accountable. I warn the government that we will not allow our culture to die.”
It is worth noting that the organized fashion show is part of the Ski and Après Ski 2025 Festival, organized by leading designer label “Shivan & Naresh” on March 7 to commemorate its 15th anniversary in Gulmarg.
However, the model display of clothes exposed during the holy month of Ramadan has caused great anger, and many say it is disrespectful to religious and cultural sentiments.
