Gurmag fashion show in Ramadan rage among Kashmir leaders during Ramadan | Indian News

During the holy month of Ramadan, a fashion show in Gurmag sparked anger from Kashmir leaders and pastors. Chief Pastor Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other prominent figures condemned the “obscene” nature of the incident, ignoring local cultural and religious sentiments, calling for strict action against organizers.

Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s chief pastor wrote on X after images of a fashion show held in Gulmarg: “Thrilling! In the holy month of Ramzan, an obscene fashion show was organized in Gulmarg, which sparked shock and anger. How to tolerate it in a valley known for its sacredness?” Mirwaiz asked for strict action against event organizers.

Similarly, Aga Ruhullah, a member of parliament and senior host of the national conference, wrote on X: “The image of Gurmag is shocking. This is the cultural invasion that the tourism industry hides. They completely ignore Kashmir sentiment. The tourism ministry officials involved, as well as organizers Shivan & Narresh, should carry out their mission immediately.”

“In the holy month of Ramadan, the fashion show in Gurmag is a very avoidable event. I consider myself a free-oriented person and believe in a coexistence of dignity and mutual respect. But this is not the best time to hold such events.

Office X Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted to X’s Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, seeking detailed reports from the authorities within 24 hours.

Chief Minister J&K’s office wrote: “Shock and anger are totally understandable. The images I have seen completely ignore local sensitivity, as well in this Holy month. My office has been in touch with local authorities and I requested a report to be submitted within the next 24 hours. This report will follow further action.

In connection with that, the organized fashion show is part of the 2025 festival of Ski with Après Ski on March 7, hosted by renowned designer label “Shivan & Narresh” to commemorate its 15th anniversary in Gulmarg.

However, the event showed off models as the Holy month that continued during Ramadan reveals costumes, which many say is disrespectful of religious and cultural sentiments.
