Govinda remembers his rejection of BR Chopra’s refusal to Mahabharat furious producers, who was abandoned for rejecting India’s biggest performance.
Actor Govinda recalls that he got the largest performance in India, Mahabharat, but he rejected it after following his mother’s advice. Recently, the No. 1 actor appeared in a performance by Mukesh Khanna, in which the No. 1 actor admitted that he played a role in BR Chopra’s iconic performance.
Haseena Maan Jayegi actor revealed that he regularly visits the homes of BR Chopra and his son Ravi Chopra to assist Ravi’s wife Renu Chopra with housework. Govinda shares memories of the late 1980s, “Mein Unke Ghar Mein Jakar Kaam Vam Karta Tha (I would work from their home). RenuBhabhi would call me, ‘Chichi Beta aaja aaja ghar par (Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Chichi, Go home). I would clear the house.” I don’t think BR Chopra knew I had been to his house and Aunty (Madam Chopra) loved me so much.
In BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, Govinda was awarded the role of Abhimanyu. But when the young actor was told about his role, he refused and the producer couldn’t handle his rejection. “I got to his office and he told me he chose me to play the role Abhimanyu played in Mahabharat. I told him, ‘My mom said not to play this role. I wouldn’t do it.’ He asked me, “What is your mom?” “I told him she was Sadhvi and that movie was secondary to me and I just told me what to do.
Br Chopra is frivolous, so he blurted out, “woh thodi pagal hai (she is angry). I told him that my mom’s first movie was Sharda, she made nine movies and she was his senior. I told him that everything my mom said became real, so I had no status to object to her words.”
Govinda revealed that after hearing him, BR Chopra asked him to leave the office. He was abandoned by Chopra himself when he tried to explain his role. The Swag actor revealed that his Sadvi mom told him to perform in front of BR Chopra and told him: “Apki Soch Mein Kha Gaya (I’ve eaten your thoughts), and he did the same. However, Br Chopra reacted to the anger and said: “Ye Kya Pagal Hai, Bahar Nikalo Isko (who is this lunatic? Throw him out). Govinda continued that he asked Chopra to consider his reasons, but the producers were forcing Govinda to leave his office.
