The government seeks nods on parliament on Monday (10 March 2025) to pay an additional Rs 51,462.86 crore in the current fiscal year ending March, with a large portion of which is used for pensions and subsidized fertilizers.

The additional expenditures sought by the government are over Rs 6.78 crore, of which Rs 6.27 crore will match savings and income.

Based on the additional expenditures in the current fiscal, the government will spend at Rs 514,628 crore, according to the second supplementary requirement for the grants proposed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha.

Additional expenditures include Rs 12,000 crore for fertilizer subsidies and Rs 134,499 crore for government employees’ pensions, including a unified pension scheme (UPS).

Total expenditure also includes a defense pension of Rs 84,76 crore and Rs 53,22 crore for the telecom sector.
