Fans and cricket experts alike were shocked when India veteran Ashwin announced his retirement. This all happened after the third Test match between India and Australia ended in a draw and soon after the match, Ashwin walked out to a press conference and announced his retirement.

Many current and former cricketers took to social media to wish Ashwin a great career, including Virat Kohli. Ashwin and Kohli have played a lot of cricket together and the two have won many matches for the Indian team.

“I’ve been playing with you for 14 years and when you told me today that you were retiring, it made me a little emotional and all those years of playing together came to mind. I’ve enjoyed every bit of this journey. “You Ash, your skills and winning contributions to Indian cricket were second to none and you will always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket. I wish you all the best in life with your family and everything else you do.” Virat Kohli wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Ashwin gave a heart-warming reply and said, “Thanks mate! Like I told you, I will go to the MCG with you to bat”.

Ashwin had a long chat with Kohli who then hugged the spinner, with head coach Gautam Gambhir sitting behind. It all happened on the final day of the third Test between India and Australia, when the players were waiting for the weather to clear after the tea break. Ashwin played a total of 106 Tests and scalped 537 wickets. He also scored 3503 runs with the help of 6 centuries and 14 fifties.
