A tragic accident in the Masuri area of Ghaziabad on Tuesday killed a woman and a child, while four others, including a young girl, were injured. The accident occurred at the Masuri intersection on Gulawathi Road when an electric bus suddenly moved forward at high speed and encountered people standing on the side of the road.
Witnesses said the bus driver had walked out and was standing nearby when suddenly the vehicle’s gear was sitting alone. The bus leaned forward at high speed and crashed into people standing nearby and a parked motorcycle, causing chaos and panic at the scene.
The woman was identified as Reshma, 40, and Mustafa’s wife is a resident of Masuri Jakar Colony. The child is three-year-old Afiya, the daughter of Akhlaq from the Dhaulana area of Hapur.
The injured included Mustakeem, 35, from Ghaziabad, Arif, 38, and Rahila, 32, from Gautam Buddha Nagar, and two young girls from Hapur, Mahinoor and Ayesha (14). They were taken to the hospital and were in serious condition.
The accident angered the locals and they demanded action. Former MLA Aslam Chaudhary visited the site, urging the government to provide Rs 5 lakh to the victims’ families and Rs 1 lakh to the injured. He also asked the government to pay for their medical expenses.
Masuri police have taken the bus in custody and are looking for a driver who fled after the accident. ACP Masuri Siddharth Gautam said an investigation is underway and action is taken. The situation at the scene is under control and traffic has been cleared.
