Congress on Friday dismissed the FIR against Rahul Gandhi, calling it a “diversionary tactic”. The party linked it to his outcry over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks against Ambedkar during the parliamentary scuffle and termed it a “badge of honour”.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in a post of ” It is a badge of honor to sue him for his legacy.

Venugopal stressed that the opposition Lok Sabha leader would face 26 FIRs anyway due to the “vendetta politics of the BJP”. He added, “The latest FIR will not deter him or the Congress from taking a stand against the casteist RSS-BJP regime.”

The Congress general secretary criticized the Delhi Police for filing an FIR based on a complaint by a BJP MP while ignoring a similar complaint by a Congress woman MP.

Delhi Police on Thursday filed an FIR in connection with the scuffle involving Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. Two BJP MPs were reportedly injured in the incident.

The BJP filed a complaint accusing Gandhi of “personal attacks and incitement”. They called for him to be charged, including attempted murder.

The police will obtain the CCTV footage from the Lok Sabha Secretariat where the incident took place.

The case against the former Congress president was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 115 (intentionally causing grievous hurt), 117, 125, 131 and 351. ) was also mentioned. The rest of the charges are consistent with those mentioned in the BJP complaint.

A police officer said that except for Section 117, all the charges against Gandhi are bailable.

Protests over ‘Ambedkar’s remarks’ turn chaotic

The controversy over Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar escalated on Thursday, triggering strong protests against ‘Makar Dwar’ in Parliament by opposition parties. The protests allegedly turned violent, with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused of pushing two BJP MPs, injuring them.

BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured in the melee. ANI reported that Mukesh Rajput was in serious condition and was admitted to the intensive care unit of Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi. Sarangi was also admitted to hospital after sustaining injuries near Makadewa.

Sarangi claimed, “Rahul Gandhi pushed a MP and he fell on me and I fell down. I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed a MP and then he fell on me.

Rahul Gandhi refuted the allegations, claiming that BJP MPs were trying to prevent him from entering Parliament. “I tried to enter Parliament and the BJP members stopped me, pushed me and threatened me,” Gandhi told reporters.
