The Kerala Pollution Control Board (PCB) will soon submit data on various sources of domestic sewage discharged into Edappally and Perandoor canals, as conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute A solution to this problem is developed as part of the feasibility study (CSIR-NEERI).
Secondary information on pollution loads from sewage discharges along the canal will be collected by the committee and submitted to the study group for a final report. The study was launched on the basis of directions issued by the Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which took note of the “Severe fecal pollution in Perandoor, Edappally canal” report published in hinduism Launched on January 28, 2021.
The bench, comprising judicial member Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana and expert member Dr Satyagopal Korlapati, issued an order on August 20, 2024, directing the board and CSIR-NEERI to submit the final report immediately as “the case is still pending” since 2021 and there is no any remedies.
From October 15th to 18th, NEERI researchers conducted fieldwork along the canal. The committee in turn asked the Irrigation Department and Kochi Corporation to provide data. The research team also suggested identifying suitable government land to establish a modular manufacturing process supporting system.
