Sandeep Sharma is one of the most underrated bowlers in the history of IPL. He keeps making headlines with his brilliant bowling performances and keeps taking wickets. Recently, in an exclusive interview with ZEE NEWS, he talked about the biggest turning point in his career.
The incident happened during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. It was MS Dhoni who batted and Sandeep was asked to bowl it. Sandeep managed to help Rajasthan Royals register a three-run win despite hitting two sixes in one over.
“My plan is to bowl only yorkers. I practice yorkers in training and also want to perform well in matches. But you know how good MS Dhoni is, once you make any mistake, he will punish you. He Two sixes hit me and then I decided to bowl from around the wicket and as Dhoni was waiting for me to bowl a yorker, I decided to go for a long over and that worked for us in the end. Won the match. I think it was one of the biggest turning points in my career,” Sandeep revealed.
“What I like about MS Dhoni is that after the match, he stays on the field and talks to every player around him. He makes it very simple. He told me once that if you want to perform anything on the field thing, don’t be vulnerable and always be confident. That’s one thing that still helps me,” he told ZEE NEWS.
“When I was unavailable for IPL 2023, I got a call from Sanju Samson that I might play for Rajasthan Royals as their team had some injuries. Sanju Samson said he believed there was Chances are I will do well. He showed a lot of confidence in me and Sanju also said I should continue my training. I had a very positive conversation with Sanju Samson after a while. Prasidh Krishna got injured and I was asked to join the training camp of Rajasthan Royals. That’s how my journey with Rajasthan Royals started,” Sandeep added.
