EU, EU discusses ways to strengthen collaboration in urban development

India and the EU discussed ways to strengthen urban development cooperation on Friday (28 February 2025), focusing on green, smarter and more inclusive cities.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Urban Affairs, the EU delegation, including Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice President of Cohesion and Reform, and Jozef Síkela, the International Partnership Commissioner, called on the Minister of Trade Unions for Urban Affairs, ML Khattar.

Mr. Qatar emphasized sustainability, resilience and deeper India-EU relations as key priorities. As the partnership enters its third decade, he highlights a joint effort for greener, smarter and more inclusive cities.

On Thursday (27 February 2025), Minister of Women and Children’s Development Union Annapurna Devi met with Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparation and Crisis Management of Europe.

The meeting was part of a senior two-day visit by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, accompanied by a committee composed of 26 ministers.

During the discussion, Ms. Devi and Ms. Lahbib explored ways to strengthen cooperation in India-EU in the fields of empowering women and child welfare. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to promoting inclusive policies to enhance the well-being of women and children, especially those from vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The Minister of Women and Child Development highlighted key initiatives by the Indian Government, including Shakti Mission Shakti, Beti Bacha Bacha Beti Padhao and various other programs.

Ms. Rahbib praised India’s progress in empowering women and reiterated the EU’s commitment to strengthening partnerships in this field. She stressed the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges related to women’s empowerment and crisis responses.
