The Punjab State Parliament rejected a draft national agricultural marketing policy framework on Tuesday (25 February 2025) and violated the national interest.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the state government had already made its position clear in its written replies sent to the coalition government.

The chief minister said the policy attempted to withdraw controversial provisions of the Indian government’s three farm laws repealed in 2021 after long protests by farmers. He said that since the issue is a national theme under the Constitution, the Indian government should not have any such policy.
“Hate of Punjab”
“The Union government’s treatment of the country’s stepmother stems from protests by farmers in Punjab against farm laws, after which the union government had to bow. The hatred for Punjab is largely because the centre has to take back the law,” he said.

Singh Bajwa, a parliamentary party of opposition leaders, said the draft would prove deadly to the agricultural sector in Punjab, which is ready to support the Punjab government against the draft.
The Punjab Congress can do anything to defend the interests of Punjab. We will not even shy away from fighting with the Punjab government to protect the rights and reasons of Punjab. ”
Mr Bajwa called the BJP anti-Pongjab party, saying that the BJP weakened Punjab economically and politically. “The BJP serves only the interests of multinational corporations and large corporations, and is least willing to work for the interests of farmers and other selfless parts,” he said.
