Angry Donald Trump clashed with Volodymyr Zelensky, and the U.S. president told his Ukrainian counterparts to reach a deal with Russia “or we are not here.”
During the heat exchange, the two were repeatedly interrupted in ways rarely seen in the White House.
At one time, an angry Trump said that Zelensky was not grateful enough for the military and political support of the United States and that he “gambled with World War III.”
Zelensky said it should not be “uncompromised” with Russian President Vladimir Putin – but Trump said Kiev must make concessions to reach a peace deal with Russia.
The meeting was intended to serve as a prelude to the signing of the mineral agreement between the two, but it did not proceed.
It appears to be a public dress between Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance, the Ukrainian president, and the conversation began when Vance told Zelensky that Zelensky must end the war through diplomacy.
Zelensky asked “What kind of diplomacy?” without respect before being accused by the vice president.
Discussions then escalated rapidly, with Trump and Vance accusing Ukraine of being ungrateful of our three years of support during the war with Russia, and Trump said he had no right to tell the United States how it should feel.
Shortly after the meeting, just before planning a pre-planned schedule, Zelensky was seen leaving the White House in his official vehicle.
Meanwhile, Trump entered the Truth Society of the Social Media Platform he owned, Say “Zelensky disrespects America in the precious Oval Office”.
“Today we had a very meaningful meeting at the White House,” he wrote. “A lot of people talk about it under such fires and pressures will never be able to understand.
“It’s amazing how things come up through emotionally, I’m sure President Zelensky isn’t ready for peace if he’s involved in the United States because he feels our participation gives him a great advantage in negotiations. I don’t want an advantage, I want peace.”
He added that Zelensky was “ready to come back in peacetime.”
The two leaders are expected to sign an agreement to give Washington access to Ukrainian oil, gas and rare minerals, which were later confirmed to have not happened.
