Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Administrator and Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department SR Umashankar directed officials to design a comprehensive multi-modal connectivity plan to decongest the Hebbal hub. On Thursday (November 8), he inspected several ongoing projects in the city.
With the first phase of BDA’s grade crossing plan underway, he stressed the need to incorporate additional infrastructure, including proposed grade crossings, underpasses, metro projects and suburban railways, while also considering the tunnel roads proposed by the BBMP.
He stressed the urgency of managing traffic congestion at Hebbal junction and stressed the need for a master plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic at the junction without causing inconvenience to citizens. Mr. Umashankar directed the traffic police to coordinate with the Bengaluru Development Authority to ensure speedy completion of the Hebbal project.
During the on-site inspection, he noticed the poor condition of the road at Hebbal junction and directed for milling and repaving of the road section.
Subway project
At Kempapura junction, where metro station construction is underway, BMRCL officials reported plans to realign the service road and open three lanes on both sides of the road for traffic. Umashankar advised officials to intensify their work at night when there is less traffic. He also directed city officials to address flooding issues at Chang Yuan intersection where subway construction is ongoing to strengthen the stormwater drainage network around the intersection.
Social Welfare Department works at Silk Pan Road intersection
With frequent flooding at the Silk Bureau junction, Mr. Umashankar directed the municipal officials to expand the Social Welfare Department network and remove accumulated silt. He asked the BBMP officials to widen the drains and increase the wall height as part of the long-term flood control plan.
Ejipura flyover and Jayanagar BDA complex
Mr. Umashankar also inspected the ongoing construction of Ejipura flyover and directed the contractors to expedite its completion. He also visited the BDA complex in Jayanagar where he reviewed the redevelopment plan of Block 1.
Mr. Umashankar directed the officials to take forward plans for new commercial complexes in Sectors 2, 3 and 4, stressing on a comprehensive approach in the redevelopment process.
