Coimbatore police arrested three men for carrying smuggled country-made pistols. The gun was reportedly sold to an individual who was apparently an information technology professional.
The anti-terror squad was tracking information about arms smuggling into Tamil Nadu and got a tip-off that two men were trying to smuggle country-made firearms.
The three men were identified as two locals, Manikanda Prabhu and Harisri, and Kundan Rai from Patna, Bihar. According to police, Manikanda Prabhu was the alleged buyer in the deal. ATS Sub-Inspector Joseph and his team caught them and recovered a country-made pistol and six rounds of live ammunition.
All three were booked under Section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act and taken to Peelamedu police station.
According to First Information Report, the men were arrested near Anna Industries in Vinobhaji Nagar area of ​​Coimbatore district. In addition to guns and live ammunition, police also recovered a bag, three mobile phones and a motorcycle from the three arrested persons.
Further investigation is ongoing.
