San Francisco-based OpenAI has released a beta update for its ChatGPT app on macOS, aiming to improve usability for a wide range of users, from software developers to users looking for improved productivity tools.
According to the company’s announcements on LinkedIn and X, the latest update introduces direct integration with popular coding tools such as Warp, IntelliJ IDEA, and PyCharm. These integrations are expected to help developers by providing in-editor debugging, problem solving, and code suggestion assistance. The update also includes new “o1” and “o1 Pro” modes, which promise more advanced encoding support.
Beyond Coding: Features for Everyday Users
While the update brings significant benefits to programmers, OpenAI also includes features for general users. ChatGPT now integrates with widely used note-taking applications, including Apple Notes, Notion and Quip. This feature is designed to streamline workflow, whether brainstorming ideas, organizing projects, or managing daily tasks.
One of the standout new features is the advanced voice command functionality. This feature allows users to interact with ChatGPT through voice input, enabling hands-free dictation and assistance in supported applications. OpenAI says this could make tasks like coding or note-taking more seamless.
Usability and accessibility
Beta updates are only available to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise and Edu plans. Users can access the new features by downloading the updated ChatGPT app for macOS.
At the same time, OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT integrated with WhatsApp, allowing users in the United States to interact directly with the popular AI chatbot through the Meta-owned instant messaging application. The move is part of a series of recent announcements from OpenAI, with the feature standing out as a major development in its accessibility efforts.
Users can activate the ChatGPT service on WhatsApp by sending a message or calling the US number 1-1800-242-8478. While text chat is available anywhere around the world where ChatGPT is supported, including India, voice calling functionality is currently limited to the United States and Canada
