BJP lawmaker injured in parliament confrontation, discharged from hospital after five days

Sarangi and Rajput were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after suffering head injuries.

BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were discharged from Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Monday , who were injured during a confrontation at the Capitol five days ago.

Lawmakers were injured on Thursday after a scuffle broke out between opposition and ruling Bharatiya Janata Party lawmakers. Pratap Sarangi (69) from Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Uttar Pradesh were taken to the hospital from Parliament. Although Mr. Sarangi was bleeding profusely when he was brought in, MRI and CT scans did not show serious damage. Both were under observation in the intensive care unit and were moved to private rooms on Saturday.

According to Dr. Shukla, Sarangi was bleeding profusely when he was brought in. “Rajput also sustained injuries on his head and fell unconscious. However, the MP was conscious when he was rushed to the hospital. His blood pressure levels soared,” he said.

The BJP has accused opposition Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi of personal attacks and incitement. S Phangon Konyak, a female BJP MP from Nagaland, also claimed that Mr Gandhi “came very close” to her and shouted at her during the protest, which made her feel “extremely uncomfortable”.

Delhi Police charged Gandhi under Sections 117 (Intentionally causing grievous hurt), 115 (Intentionally causing hurt), 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (Use of criminal force), 351 Sir filed an FIR.

Sources earlier revealed that the police may record the statements of Mr Sarangi and Mr Rajput today PTI.

Meanwhile, the winter session of Parliament saw a series of disruptions on a range of issues, including the Sambal violence, Manipur riots and Congress’ links with billionaire George Soros. The PRS Center for Legislative Research, a think tank that studies the Indian legislative body, said that during the winter session, the Lok Sabha was operating at 52% of the scheduled time and the Union House was operating at 39% of the scheduled time.
