India’s Siddhant Banthia and Parikshit Somani won direct wins from Nicholas Megia and Bernard Tomick at the Bangalore Open in the ATP Challenger 125 Championship on Thursday.
The unseeded Indian duo removed Nicholas and Bernard 7-5, 6-0, fighting Australia’s Blake Bayldon and Mattew Christopher Romios for the title battle. Previously, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni defeated Hynek Barton and Eric Vanshelboim 6-3, 6-3 to successfully win the championship defense.
After the first start, both Banthia-Somani and Mejia-Tomic took over the toes, who almost caught it in Game 7. However, after saving a key breakout point, the Indian couple swept Games 9 and 11 on the serve before taking the lead in Game 12.
Banthia and Somani brought the momentum into the second group and then wrapped things up in just 20 minutes. Earlier, Ramkumar and Saketh broke their opponents early in the first set and then headed to the lead. They then took a crucial break in Game 5 and Nine of Game 2.
In the competition, the two most successful players, Ramkumar and Myneni, will win the championship with Anirudh Chandrasekar/Ray Ho and SD Prajwal Dev/Aryan Shah. The second seeds Bayldon and Romios joined two pairs of India in the semifinals, defeating India’s Adil Kalyanpur and Karan Singh.
In the singles, Hynek Barton continued his dream result, reaching the quarterfinals by defeating Denmark’s August Holmgren 7-6 (5), 6-3. The third seed Brandon Holt came from a game, overcame former No. 17 Bernard Tomic, who had a hard work of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, booked his spot in the last eight games.
The third singles match of the day was the seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki beat Jay Clarke 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
