Today’s Bank Holidays in Mahashivratri 2025: Public and private banks in several parts of the country will be closed on Wednesday, February 26, a holy day for Hindus on the occasion of the Mahashivratri Festival. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Bank Holiday Calendar, there is a bank holiday in 22 cities in India today.

Mahashivratri Bank Holidays will be observed in the Reserve Bank of India’s “Under the Negotiable Instrument Act” section.

However, not all cities will see bank holidays because Mahashivratri is not a bank holiday. Banks will be closed in some cities.

Bank Holidays on Mahashivratri: Cities that observe bank holidays today

All state-run and private lenders will close for offline services on February 26 in these cities due to Mahashivratri — Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad – Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad – Telangana, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar and Tirouvananthapuram.

However, there are no bank holidays in several states including Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Nagaland, New Delhi, New Delhi, Bia, Bia, Bihar and Meghalaya.

Bank holidays usually vary from state to state to state and region. They closed the country across the country, including Gandhi Jayanti and Diwali. In addition, bank holidays are observed every second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays. Unless the Reserve Bank of India announces holidays, all bank branches nationwide are still open on Saturdays, third and fifth.

Since Mahashivratri is not a national holiday, it is recommended that bank customers verify the same situation with their nearest branches to avoid any confusion. Services that require actual access to banks (including withdrawing funds with a checkbook) are not available in many cities and states due to today’s bank holidays.

It must be noted that account holders and clients can still leverage Internet banking, SMS banking, and WhatsApp banking services to meet financial and non-financial needs. Online banking services will provide such as fund transfers, payment bills and utilities, UPI services, request checkbooks, download statements and book tickets. ATM cash withdrawals and non-cash transactions will also be provided.

Mahashivratri 2025

Mahashivratri is an annual Indian music festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to the Indian calendar, it can be observed in 14 days of the first half of the lunar month. It was also the darkest night of the year.

Schools, colleges, stock markets and a number of other institutions will also close on Mahashivratri.
