Sydney – Australian police said on Monday that organized crime networks have created a false plan to divert police resources, a fake plan to use explosive caravans to attack Sydney synagogues.
In January, authorities found explosives in caravans or trailers, which could cause about 130 feet of explosion waves and were generated in the address of the Sydney synagogue.
But police said Monday that the discovery was part of a “crime scam” and it was easy to spot caravans, while the lack of detonators, suggesting that there was never any intention to attack Jewish targets.
“The caravan will never cause massive casualties, but is concocted by criminals who want to cause fear of personal interests,” said Krissy Barrett, deputy director of national security at the Australian Federal Police.
“Almost immediately, experienced investigators… believe that the caravan is part of a fabricated terrorist plot, essentially criminal work.”

“It’s about creating chaos within the community, posing threats, raising anxiety, shifting police resources from their daily work, and focusing them on things that enable them to start or engage in other criminal activities,” Hudson said.
He added that police are investigating suspects involved in the organized crime network.
Australia has suffered a series of anti-Semitism attacks in recent months, causing anger from Israel, a traditional ally of the country, by deliberate destruction and arson attacks on houses, schools, synagogues and vehicles.
