Key Events
SES Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns, who spent a second in New South Wales, said the overall situation for the former tropical cyclone Alfred looked more promising than it looked a few days ago. This is what he has to say:
We are pleased to see some warnings reduced over the weekend, leaving some residents cautiously returning in parts of Lismore, Kygole, Wiangaree, Wiangara, Arrawarra Beach, Darlington Beach and other locations.
However, we are not yet in the woods, and many communities are still experiencing major floods and isolation, and the risk of continuous rainfall expected throughout Monday may only exacerbate this risk.
We may see new rivers rising, but we hope we have seen the worst rains of this event.
I got more information about flooding from SES in New South Wales:
There was a major flood on the Clarence River, and emergency warnings advised people to shelter downstream of Carls Island, Grafton and Harwood, Chatworth, Warregah and Goodwood Islands. Residents on these islands will be quarantined until the flood retreats.
Along the Richmond River, it was too late for Bungawalbin residents to leave the area and seek refuge on higher ground due to major floods. There was also a major flood in Coraki.
It was very heavy rains all night in Queensland and the Tweed Valley. This time the rainfall increased flood levels throughout the region and is expected to continue to be good in many places, including Tumbulgum.
Further south, the McLin River may reach moderate flooding in Kempsey and Smithtown, and residents are advised to evacuate. Due to flooding on the road, hat heads, crescent shapes and southwest rocks can also be isolated.
Small floods are flooding in the northwest and midwest of the state.

Residents along the Enogerra Creek catchment in Brisbane have been warned to prepare to move to higher ground as the Enogerra dam overflows.
The dam currently has a capacity of 240%, overflowing into the creek system last night, lower than the main flood.
The problem now is that the combination of climax, overflowing water from the reservoir and continuous heavy rain will cause the house to flood.
The Guardian Australia saw the creek breaking yesterday and overflowing into the park and nearby streets. These photos (around 10:30 am) are when the stream is below the “small” flood level. Nowadays, it seems that there may be more serious conditions.

Good morning everyone – This is Cait Kelly and I’ll be with you until the afternoon.
It’s a big morning, so let me catch up on your headlines quickly.
Major floods have quarantined 1,800 people as former tropical cyclone Alfred continues to bring heavy rain to northern New South Wales.
Due to the increase in flooding, another 18,500 people are recommended to prepare for quarantine. In the northeast of the state, 20,300 people (or 9,400) are still under emergency warnings to advise them to evacuate.
Ipswich City Council has just issued an alarm about flooding, with flood warnings in most parts of the state including Noosa Rivers, Maroochy, Brisbane River, Logan, Logan, Cooper Creek and more. You can view the latest updates to the BOM here.
As we grow, I will also bring you more about this ever-evolving situation.
I’ve prepared a lot for you this morning, so let’s get started.
