Mumbai: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has strongly condemned the undignified remarks against women leaders during the campaign and urged officials to take timely and stern action, candidate sources at the Chief Election Office of Maharashtra told ANI on Friday. Sources said that during a review meeting with the district election officer, police commissioner, SP, city commissioner and election officials, the CEC expressed concern and displeasure over the use of derogatory language against the dignity and honor of women. Political parties and candidates shall not engage in any conduct, action or statement that may be considered detrimental to the honor and dignity of women.
Kumar noted that any aspect of private life of other party leaders or workers that is not related to public events should not be criticized, sources said. Low-level personal attacks that insult an opponent are not allowed.
The Chief Election Commissioner has directed all officials to ensure prompt and stern action against any derogatory remarks by candidates or political leaders, or remarks that are contrary to the honor and dignity of women and in violation of MCC regulations. He hopes that all candidates and party leaders will improve their speech and behavior in speeches and public interactions to reflect respect for women.
