Apple has recently launched some new devices, including the iPhone 16E, MacBook Air with M4, iPad Air, etc. After the launch of the new product, the Cupertino-based tech giant appears to shift its focus to the boundaries that drive audio technology. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring ways to include micro cameras in future Airpods. The brand may debut the technology on the AirPods Pro 4.
Apple plans to add new features to Airpods
Mark Gurman noted in the latest version of the Newsletter that Apple is “actively developing” new Airpods with built-in cameras. The technology is unlikely to be included in the upcoming AirPods Pro 3, but Apple is said to be working on it for future generations. AirPods with integrated cameras may be able to provide detailed information about the wearer’s surroundings and can use the collected data in AI capabilities.
Gurman claims that the new version of AirPods Pro will use external cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) to understand the outside world and provide information to users. “This is essentially a smart glasses path, but there are no actual glasses,” he said. This will allow users to ask Siri about their surroundings directly through the earplugs.
By placing the camera in its popular Airpods, Apple is said to be watching to expand its visual intelligence capabilities into the earbuds. The technology debuted on the iPhone 16 series via camera control buttons.
According to Gurman, Apple won’t reveal the technology until 2027 and will likely make its debut on the Airpods Pro 4. Apple is said to be considering introducing new smart glasses in the same year.
Gurman Bolsters’ report was previously filed by TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo thought last year that Airpods’ cameras could act as infrared sensors in the future. It is said that they can provide an enhanced spatial audio experience through Apple Vision Pro, and also implement “air gesture control”.
