Anthropic AI said it will work with data analytics company Palantir and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide a series of Claude’s artificial intelligence models to U.S. intelligence and defense agencies. The artificial intelligence startup said it will use Palantir’s data tools to process large amounts of data so that government operations departments can gain rapid insights by quickly identifying patterns.
The Claude 3 and 3.5 models will be integrated with Palantir’s artificial intelligence platform and hosted on AWS, the companies said. Palantir and AWS have received Impact Level 6 (IL6) certification from the U.S. Department of Defense, which is considered critical to national security. Such authentication requires “maximum protection” against unauthorized access and tampering.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of bringing responsible artificial intelligence solutions to America’s classified environments, improving analytics and operational efficiency for the government’s critical operations,” said Kate Earle Jensen, director of sales and partnerships at Anthropic.
The Amazon-backed company is positioning itself as a safety-first alternative to rival OpenAI. But the company’s terms of service do not prohibit its models from being used for “lawfully authorized foreign intelligence analysis, identifying covert influence activities, and providing warnings in advance of potential military activity.”
A few days ago, Meta said it would provide the Llama model to the U.S. military for national security purposes. Last week, Reuters reported that Chinese researchers were building military applications on Meta’s Llama model.
OpenAI also has a partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense.
