Animal husbandry and insurance departments sign MoU on livestock insurance scheme

The Animal Husbandry Department provides insurance to 50,000 dairy cows and the dairy farmers who own these cows through the Gosamrudhi-NLM 2024-25 insurance scheme. The department is implementing the livestock insurance scheme in collaboration with the state insurance department through United India Insurance Corporation.

The Ministry of Animal Husbandry and the Ministry of State Insurance signed an agreement on Wednesday in the presence of Finance Minister KN Balagopal and Animal Husbandry Minister J. Chinchurani.

Under the scheme, the government will provide 50 per cent government subsidy for general category cattle priced up to Rs 65,000 and 70 per cent subsidy for SC/ST category cattle. Dairy farmers in the general category will be eligible for Rs 1,456, which is 50% of the insurance premium for one year. Dairy farmers in the SC/ST category will be eligible to receive Rs 2,038, which is 70% of the premium amount. The amounts for the three-year insurance period are Rs 3,568 and Rs 4,995 respectively, the Animal Husbandry Ministry said in a statement.
