A unique vessel, known as the ancient sewing ship, was directed by Admiral Admiral Ramakrishnan, on Thursday to command flag officers in the Karnataka Navy region. The press conference was held at the Hodi Innovation Shipyard in Goa.
The ship is made of wood, paint and natural resin to pay tribute to traditional shipbuilding techniques. It is sewn from coconut fiber, an ancient Indian marine building technology.
The project works with Kerala craftsman Babu Shankaran.
Historian Sanjeev Sanyal initiated the project, which was executed through a tripartite agreement between the Navy, the Ministry of Culture and Hody Innovation.
At the ceremony, Admiral Lamakrishnan also announced plans to dock ships at the port of Kaval, highlighting the historical importance of sewing the ship.
Captain Dilip Donde, the country’s first global solo Circuit, will direct a naval team to prepare for the sea navigation on board.
