Indian-origin student Lakshmi Kumari turned heads in a traditional gown at her graduation ceremony in Switzerland. Ms Kumari, a German-speaking law graduate from the University of Basel, celebrated her achievement by wearing an outfit that represented her Indian heritage.

Despite freezing temperatures and snow, Ms. Kumari confidently showed off her traditional attire to make a bold statement at the graduation ceremony. Sharing her look on Instagram, she wrote: “You’d never guess it’s sub-zero temperatures and snowing outside, but obviously there’s no compromise when it comes to wearing a gown.”

This post quickly attracted widespread attention from netizens, who liked it one after another. Her classmates and professors also appreciated her choice, expressing support and appreciating the cultural significance of her attire. Ms. Kumari chose a simple yet elegant gown to ensure it suited the occasion while still being eye-catching. “Lehengas are rarely seen in Switzerland except in Bollywood movies, so it stands out,” she points out.
