Drug Mod Bust: Amritsar Police busted a cross-border drug smuggling module and arrested two persons with alleged links to Pakistani smugglers. Police also seized 10 kilograms of heroin, officials said Sunday.
The two arrested were Sukhdev Singh and Avtar Singh, who have links with smugglers in Pakistan, news agency ANI reported. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had links with smugglers in Pakistan. In 2015, two Pakistani nationals reportedly crossed the border with 19.5 kilograms of heroin. Police said they and the accused were arrested with 2.5 kilograms of heroin, Rs 65 lakh in drug money, a pistol and a rifle.
Sukhdev Singh was released from prison last year and Avtar Singh was granted bail in September. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Hakima Gate police station in Amritsar under the NDPS Act. Investigations are ongoing to trace backward and forward connections, the statement said. Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday seized a drone and two heroin consignments in separate incidents at the border areas of Ferozepur and Amritsar districts in Punjab.
According to a BSF statement, the intelligence agency conducted a search operation in Ferozepur early in the morning and seized around 545 grams of heroin. Around 544 grams of heroin was intercepted from a rural village in Amritsar in the afternoon, police added.
