Infosys fired more than 300 freshmen who received basic training on its Mysuru campus but were unable to clear the internal assessment.
Infosys layoff news: In the face of mass layoffs, Narayana Murthy’s infosys has attracted a group from the Karnataka Labor Department in the case. The union’s labor department and the employment department reportedly sent another letter to the state labor commissioner for mass termination of trainees who intervened in the Infosys’ Mysuru campus.
Now, based on the documentary evidence collected, the state Department of Labor clears any labor law violations related to the withdrawal of trainees. “We may submit a final report to the government on March 4,” a senior labor department official said.
“They are all the only trainees, some have been trained for three months. We can’t call it a layoff, so in this case these labor laws don’t apply. Only when there is regular employment, layoffs apply. There is no employer-employee relationship at all. They are apprentice trainers, no employees,” one source said, as the news outlet said.
Earlier, state labor department officials visited Infosys’ campus on February 13 to assess the situation. Infosys reiterates its commitment to maintaining high employee standards and highlights its policies in assessment, spending services and severance payments. Infosys is India’s second largest IT services company with a market value of Rs 7.31 crore as of February 27.
