The court on November 25 sought information from the central government regarding its decision on representation of the petitioner.
According to the order, Solicitor General SB Pandey informed the court that the ministry had written to the British government seeking details about Gandhi’s alleged British citizenship and hence it would take eight weeks to take a final decision on the agency sought by the petitioner to cancel Gandhi. parliamentary elections.
In the PIL, the petitioner argued that he has all documents and some emails related to the British government proving that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen and therefore ineligible to contest elections in India.
The petitioner also said that he had twice approached the competent authorities regarding Rahul’s dual citizenship issue but as no action was taken, this petition was filed.
The petition also stated that Rahul Gandhi’s dual citizenship constitutes a crime under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and Passport Act and requested a CBI probe into the matter.
