MHOW/INDORE: At the rally celebrating Indian cricket team’s victory in the ICC Championship Trophy final, 13 people were arrested for clashes at Mhow Town in Madhya Pradesh. Indore collector Ashish Singh told reporters that the four were injured in the incident on Sunday night.

According to police, five violent incidents occurred in different parts of the town, located in the Indore area, with three cars and several two-wheelers attacked and triggered the attack. Collectors say police have arrested 13 people so far on charges of indulging in arson and violence in Mhow town, and are currently under control.

He said shortly after receiving information about the violence, police arrived at the scene and worked to restore peace in the troubled area. So far, 13 people have been arrested and a FIR has been registered in the matter. He said actions under the strict National Security Act (NSA) will also target some of these actions.

Collectors said some FIRs will also be registered in the incident based on people’s statements, adding that some videos related to the incident also surfaced. “At present, peace has been restored in the region. No one will be spared and strict action (violence) will be taken against those responsible for it,” he said.

The collector also called on people not to spread rumors/information on social media and warned of action in case of those who indulge in this behavior.
Asked about the reasons behind the incident, collectors said it started near the mosque, and those who had already participated in the parade had disputes with another group of groups and then they manipulated each other.

He said that according to the initial reports, the parade was taken from different regions, and later one of the groups exploded with firecrackers. The official said that after investigation, it will be clear that everyone is responsible for it. Meanwhile, Rahul Sharma, the head of the MHOW Police Department, said three cars and twelve two-wheelers were attacked and burned.

He said police are investigating all five incidents – in the areas of Taal Mohalla, Sewa Marg, Patti Bazar, Manek Chowk and Jama Masjid. The official said the entire CCTV footage and videos that people took on their phones were being examined to identify those who were addicted to arson, destruction and stone.

He said a large number of security officers arrived at MHOW on Sunday night. Senior police officers also arrived at Mhow, 25 kilometers from the headquarters in Indore and took stock of the situation. Locals have said earlier that a group of young cricket enthusiasts organized a rally to celebrate India’s victory over New Zealand.

But as they approached the Jama Masjid area, a large group of people allegedly began to throw stones at them, causing chaos and forcing them to abandon their motorcycles and run away. They said that after the consequences, some set fire to many abandoned motorcycles, further exacerbating tensions.

Police Deputy Inspector General Nimish Agarwal told PTI on Sunday night that a rally was held in Mhow to celebrate the victory of the Indian Champions League trophy. He added that during this period, some people had a dispute, causing the two parties to interact with each other. Locals say the conflict has caused panic in several areas of the town.
