The Egmore police in Chennai have registered a case against actor Kasturi Shankar in four parts of ‘Bharat Nagrik Suraksha Samhita’. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the Telugu Association against her for making controversial remarks against Telugu-speaking people living in Tamil Nadu.
The actor sparked a controversy when he spoke about Telugu speaking people in Tamil Nadu.
Following the backlash, she spoke to the media on Monday, claiming her comments had been misinterpreted and were spreading negative publicity against her.
“(During the protest) I exposed the hypocrisy and double standards of the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazagam),” she said, defending her remarks during the Brahmin protests.
She also posted a statement on her X account. “It was never my intention to hurt or offend my extended Telugu family. I deeply apologize for any unintentional bad feelings. In the interest of all parties, I withdraw all references to Telugu in my speech on November 3, 2024 content,” she wrote in her statement.
In the same statement, she also wrote that the controversy diverted the focus from the larger points she made in her speech and asked her “Telugu brethren in Tamil Nadu to unite behind Brahmins and fight for dignity.” war.
At an event organized on November 3, the actor spoke about Telugu people living in Tamil Nadu. Speaking at the event, which called for “legal protection for Brahmins”, she also claimed that the Tamil film industry had rejected her roles because she was a Brahmin.
Controversy erupted after Kasturi spoke of “those who served as aides to the king’s consort” who, she said, later “adopted a Tamil identity” when they became involved in divisive politics.
Shankar is a well-known actor and host who has appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films over the years.
