The arrested person was identified as Md. Arif, who was arrested by security forces in Karimganj district. After his arrest, police pushed him back to a neighboring country.
Talking about the police operation, the Assam Chief Minister further said: “Our personnel are fully prepared to thwart such infiltration attempts on the Indo-Bangladesh border.” Security alert has been heightened along international borders.
Earlier, Sarma highlighted that although some Bangladeshi infiltrators managed to obtain Aadhaar cards, they were unable to register themselves in the electoral roll. “It is not possible for people to cross the international border illegally from Bangladesh and enter the electoral roll of Assam as we have caught many people illegally entering Indian territory and they were arrested within a few hours,” the BJP leader said. Came back.
“Most of the infiltrators were arrested around 5 a.m. and by 9 a.m. they were driven back to neighboring countries. After two or three hours, they could not be registered on the electoral roll,” he further said.
The chief minister, however, sees no harm in maintaining a double vigil in the matter. “We have decided to take a series of measures to prevent detection of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh as security personnel may not be able to arrest some infiltrators,” he added.
CM Sarma stressed that people of Bangladesh came to India because of the poverty in the neighboring country due to the recent riots after the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government. He also claimed that contrary to traditional fears, people from mainly Muslim communities were trying to cross the border into India illegally for work.
