Commonwealth Bank customers have found their account balances are lower than they should be after the bank charged them twice on certain transactions.
These duplicate transactions involved transactions from recent days and caused some people’s bank accounts to be overdrawn.
The Commonwealth Bank said it was working “urgently” to reverse the transactions and any fees charged would be refunded.
The bank issued an “important message” to customers on Saturday morning, saying “we are aware that some customers have seen duplicate transactions in their payments”.
The company told customers “we apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience with us.”
Customers took to social media to express their distress, with some vowing to move banks if their funds are returned.
While the bank said it was dealing with the issue urgently, customers are demanding to know when their money will be refunded.
One customer said they had “hundreds” of repeat transactions on social media.
For some, a lack of funds is a problem or emergency – one person on social media said they risked missing their flight because they didn’t have enough money to get to the airport.
