A 15-year-old boy in Maharashtra’s Sangli district allegedly committed suicide after his mother refused to give him a mobile phone on his birthday, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Miraj city on Saturday night, an official said.
Vishwajeet Ramesh Chamdanwale said he allegedly hanged himself at his home while his mother and sister were sleeping.
The official said Vishwajit had celebrated his birthday two days ago and asked his mother for a mobile phone. The mother refused the request due to financial problems.
He said the boy’s family found him hanging the next day.
An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered and further investigation is on, the official added.
