The iPhone 15 has become the world’s best-selling smartphone in the third quarter of 2024, according to research firm Counterpoint. Following the regular iPhone in the rankings are its siblings iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro. Although Apple occupies the top three places, Samsung also shows its strength with the largest number of smartphones.

It’s worth noting that Apple’s performance is more or less the same as last year, with the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro being the top three phones in Counterpoint’s Q3 2023 data. However, the iPhone 13, which was discontinued after the launch of the iPhone 16 series in September, no longer has a place in the rankings, with its successor the iPhone 14 ranking eighth.

It’s good news for Samsung, with one of the Korean smartphone maker’s flagship S series devices entering the top 10 sales for the first time since 2018. Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A35 5G and Galaxy A05 are among the best-selling mobile phones in the third quarter of 2024.
Meanwhile, the only brand to make it into the top ten is Xiaomi, with the Redmi 13C 4G ranked 9th, like its predecessor. It is expected that in the third quarter of 2024, the top 10 best-selling mobile phones will account for about 19% of global smartphone sales.
Counterpoint estimates that artificial intelligence can help Apple and Samsung consolidate their dominance in the smartphone competition. Apple’s first set of artificial intelligence features, called “Apple Intelligence,” rolled out last week with the iOS 18.1 update, and the next major update will be iOS 18.2 sometime in December.
