In the ongoing crackdown on child marriage, the Assam police arrested 416 people and registered 335 cases in the third phase of the operation that started on the night of December 21 and 22. Those arrested are scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.

Announcing the progress in the fight against child marriage, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a post on 416 people were arrested and 335 people were arrested.

Meanwhile, on December 10, at the Swahid Diwas commemoration event organized by Jamurihat in Sonitpur district, the Assam government said that the Assam government is committed to protecting the rights of indigenous peoples.

Chief Minister Sarma said, “Swaheed Diwas is a solemn occasion to commemorate the outstanding contributions of the martyrs who protected the honor of Assam.”

“We must not forget the dark days in history when more than 800 innocent patriotic people from Assam were killed to safeguard the honor of their beloved country,” he added.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma said that the state government is working tirelessly for the people of Assam to ensure that their identity is preserved and their development is promoted.

“The government is also working on demarcating boundaries to limit the impact of infiltrators. Besides, the state government has cleared 10,000 hectares of land from encroachments,” the chief minister said.

Remembering the noble sacrifice of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam riots, the Chief Minister said that his sacrifice had brought grief to Assam and the entire country.
